Arrival of former CARTA bus 3426 in Frederick, Maryland, on the evening of January 16, 2025. This was the culmination of multiple efforts to retrieve the bus from Charleston, South Carolina. After three failed attempts to drive the bus from South Carolina to Maryland under its own power, I ultimately opted to have the bus brought in on a flatbed trailer. The cost was similar to what it would take to mount another trip to Charleston, when you consider the cost of travel, lodging, meals, fuel, etc., but this also guaranteed that the bus would make it.
This photo shows the initial attempt to unload the bus from the trailer in the center lane of English Muffin Way in Frederick, Maryland. Due to a low battery charge at the time of delivery, we were not able to start the bus at this time, and so the driver hooked his truck back up to the trailer, and we moved to a side road closer to the final storage location.
